Professor Ian Maconochie FRCPCH FCEM FRCPI PhD FERC 

Prof Maconochie is a consultant in paediatric emergency medicine at St Mary's Hospital and former Associate Medical Director of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He is the first professor of paediatric emergency medicine in the UK and a visiting professor to Princess Margaret Children's Hospital in Australia and the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He is a world-renowned expert in evidence-based practice, vital signs, resuscitation science and health services evaluation. 

 

Prof Maconochie is a specialist advisor to the WHO on paediatric triage and emergency care. He is the Paediatric Chair of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, European & UK Resuscitation Councils. He is a Member of the RCPCH Intercollegiate Group on Services for Children in Emergency departments. He has previously been chair of the paediatric section of the European Society of Emergency Medicine; RCPCH Registrar and Officer for Clinical Standards; and a member of the Clinical Effectiveness Committee & the Research & Publication Committee at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. 

Prof Maconochie has been on the BMJ Hanging committee, deputy EMJ editor, Associate and Deputy Editor for Archives of Diseases of Childhood, and is currently on the editorial board of the African Journal of Emergency Medicine. He has published over 250 peer reviewed papers and reports including the European Guidelines from 2010 and ILCOR COSTR paediatric statements. In particular he has published extensively about vital signs and on PEWS systems.

Dr Jay Halbert MBBS (MD) BSc DTMH MRCPCH

Dr Halbert is a consultant paediatrician & expert in global child health. He completed sub-specialty paediatric oncology training at Great Ormond Street, University College London and Cambridge University Hospitals before working as the Clinical Lead at Barts Health. He has worked as the Named Doctor for Safeguarding, Clinical Lead for Child Mental Health and as a consultant to Simetrica-Jacobs who are global leaders in wellbeing science. 

Dr Halbert is passionate about providing safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and has worked as an expert advisor to the UK Healthcare Regulator (CQC), NICE, RCPCH & WHO. He is a leader for digital health transformation and an expert in integrated healthcare systems, patient engagement and experience.

Dr Halbert is the founder of a nationwide Emergency Paediatric Care Programme in Myanmar through a partnership between UNICEF, RCPCH, Myanmar Paediatric Society & Ministry of Health focusing on capacity building, health system strengthening & leadership development. 

Dr Halbert is author to several publications in peer reviewed journals (including The Lancet) and book chapters and he is regularly invited to present his work at national and international conferences (15 oral and 32 poster presentations). He is a medical director and instructor for several international paediatric resuscitation courses and is regularly invited to teach on postgraduate courses such as the Masters of Tropical Paediatrics and Diploma of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool.
